Description

A classic vintage Black Eagle guard-style OTF pocket knife, most commonly associated with late Cold War-era production from the 1980s.

Unlike traditional out-the-front automatic knives, this knife does not feature a spring-propelled or retracting blade. The blade itself remains fixed in place at all times — instead, the outer handle and guard assembly slide forward and back, enclosing or exposing the blade as required.

In operation, the guard and frame move forward to cover the blade (closed position), and retract rearward to expose the blade (open position). The blade does not deploy, retract, or travel under spring tension — only the protective guard mechanism moves.

This “sliding sheath” or “automatic guard” design was widely produced as a workaround to restrictive switchblade laws of the era, making it mechanically distinct from a true automatic or switchblade-style OTF knife.

Finished in period camouflage with integral swing-out guard, this is a great example of 1980s tactical novelty engineering and an increasingly collectible vintage pocket knife.
