WWII German SS Dagger

Description

Original nice early made WW2 German SS Dagger, maker J.P. Sauer & Sohn hard to find by this maker so would rate as rare, Motto on blade “Meine Ehre Heist Treue” translated “My Honor is True”in good condition.

Probably 1933-1936 era with nice etched J.P Sauer & Sohn maker mark.

This dagger is possibly an unknown prototype from J.P Sauer & Sohn who were prolific makers of SA daggers. Possibly expecting to be awarded a contract to produce SS Daggers along with others makers they could have gone ahead with making example versions to present upon request. Having failed to be awarded an SS contract these daggers would never have been an issued item. This conclusion has yet to be verified but there are items still coming to light today that were unknown or wrongly categorised in the past.

The grip exhibits some black dye loss which is not unusual as early grips were died black via boiling in aniline & not lacquered or painted. The grips can loose their darker colour over the years due to storage in different or difficult climates that experience tempature & humidity changes.

The SS roundel of coppery appearance on certain SS daggers is also not unusual on early daggers & this change of colour over time depended on the amount of copper or  other composites used to produce the roundels.

This item looks good & feels good in the hand.
